Band 7 - Senior Management Accountant - UCLH - London

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) are searching for a passionate and experienced Band 7 Senior Management Accountant to join their highly skilled team.

UCLH, situated in the West End of London, is one of the largest NHS trusts in the United Kingdom and provides first class acute and specialist services both locally and to patients from throughout the UK and abroad.

The new state-of-the-art University College Hospital which opened in 2005,  is the focal point of the Trust alongside six cutting-edge specialist hospitals. UCLH was one of the first trusts to gain foundation status.

The Role:

  • Responsible for the delivery of monthly management accounts closedown, ensuring that timely reconciliations, variance analyses & forecasting are delivered to expected timescales & standards.
  • The Senior Management Accountant will act as the designated Financial Management representatives at service management and operational meetings.
  • In conjunction with the Deputy Head of Finance, to take the financial lead on developing specific business plans and presenting these to management.
  • Identifying opportunities for financial efficiencies and high-lighting areas of risk and ensuring these are closely monitored.
  • To provide and present complex financial management information and advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • To support the implementation and development of the Financial Management service level agreement with its customers.
  • Actively supporting the compliance framework and developing the agreement to ensure customers’ needs are met.
  • To deliver a first class financial service to the divisional management team, maximising the use of available resources to ensure that key priorities are delivered on time, and with the maximum focus of finance staff into value adding activities. 

Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level, with a strong academic record.
  • CCAB qualified accountant or equivalent knowledge and experience in a relevant finance role.
  • Proven and substantial NHS experience within a finance function.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of NHS finance, including costing and Payment by Results.
  • Detailed knowledge of the operation of NHS Service Line Reporting.
  • Demonstrate experience of developing and reporting on cost improvement / productivity schemes.
  • Experience of using General Ledger and Financial reporting software packages.
  • Able to work unsupervised and take decisions with minimal reference to line manager.
  • Able to draw inferences from large complex information and data sets which could have major implications for Trust policy and decision making.
  • Able to work confidently with large volumes of data of variable quality, presenting outputs in a clear way to enable understanding by finance, operational and clinical staff.
  • Able to identify, articulate and evaluate key risks and assumptions made in reaching conclusions.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, including the ability to communicate with all levels of non-finance staff (including clinicians) from budget holders to Directors both internal and external to the Trust.
  • To report findings to others in the most appropriate and easily understood manner both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
  • Displays attention to detail.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely deliver training, on complex financial concepts to both finance and non-finance staff.
  • The ability to manage, lead &/or work as part of teams.
  • Exceptional intellectual ability to enable quick understanding of complex financial concepts and processes to a very high level and to be able to continuously develop and improve such processes.
