Band 7 - Specialist MSK Podiatrist - North Middlesex - London
North Middlesex University Hospital (North Mid) are searching for a passionate and experienced Band 7 Specialist MSK Podiatrist to join their highly skilled team.
North Mid provides both hospital and community care, helping to keep people in the best possible health at every stage in their lives.
Its maternity, children, and adult services span a range of medical and surgical specialities and its adult and children’s emergency departments are among the busiest in London.
North Mid is also proud to offer one of the largest services in the UK dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of red cell haemoglobin conditions, including sickle cell disease and thalassaemia syndromes.
The Role:
To provide clinical expertise in the treatment of MSK foot problems and in the education and supervision of less experienced members of the Podiatry team.
To develop and deliver a high quality seamless MSK foot service within the community working with the other senior B7 leads to embed excellent care.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To perform comprehensive MSK podiatric assessment of adults and children with diverse presentations and complex physical and medical conditions.
- To provide a clinical diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised or group treatment programme.
- To hold responsibility for own caseload working as an autonomous clinical expert.
- To triage all service referrals with a view to providing the most appropriate treatment or onward referral as required.
- To work within and have a good understanding of Trust clinical guidelines, national and professional body guidelines and to monitor own and others quality of practice as appropriate. Thereby managing clinical risk within your own patient caseload.
- To decide priorities for own work area, balancing patient related and professional demands and ensure that these remain in accordance with those of the team and service.

- Understanding or communicating.For example, patients may be dysphasic, depressed, deaf, and blind or who may be unable to accept diagnosis.
- To prescribe, modify, and fit off the shelf orthoses/insoles as required.
- To refer patients as necessary to other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate care is provided and to follow Trust referral guidelines.
- To deal sensitively with patients who may have high levels of anxiety and aggression caused by pain, dementia, or limited mobility or potentially limb threatening conditions.
- On a regular basis to work with patients through interpreters, where interaction through a third party increases emotional and mental effort.
Requirements:
- Degree in Podiatry with LA certificate
- HCPC Registered
- Certificate in the use of
- Prescription only Medicines
- Broad based post graduate NHS experience with significant component in MSK foot pathology
- Experience in vascular, neurological, and gait assessment
- Experience in prescription and manufacture of orthoses and appliances
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Experience of supervision of juniors and or line management of others
- Experience of in-service delivery project /audit activities
- Extensive knowledge base underpinning broad podiatric skills
- Have a good understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession.
- Awareness of current professional and NHS issues
- Ability to prioritise and organise a case load, and work in a busy environment
- Ability to develop further podiatric skills and knowledge in specialist area
- Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of clinical reasoning to facilitate diagnosis and the development of treatment plans
- Ability to use a number of Podiatric diagnostic tools
- Competent IT skills
- Ability to use good supervisory skills
- Ability to communicate effectively when dealing with complex situations, and able to deal with difficult situations, e.g. dealing with aggressive and/or emotional patients or carers
- Ability to meet the mental and physical demands of the post, carrying out moderate to intense physical effort
- Have a comprehensive understanding of clinical governance in relation to podiatry and ability to apply principles to own work
